What is Pyrex® Glass?
Pyrex® is a trade name by Corning for a type of glass, specifically
Borosilicate Glass, that has become a standard. While the Glass is not made by
Corning it is Borosilicate, so everyone tends to refer to it by its more well known name.
Borosilicate Glass, or Pyrex, is a special class of heat resistant, chemical resistant, very
strong and resiliant glass that is not only special in its composition but is also
heated and cooled in specific ways to give it the qualities required for medical,
scientific, and sexual use.
Are Glass Dildos really safe for sex?!
Absolutely! They are very strong, very easy to keep clean, and will outlast,
outperform, and outsatisfy any other form of Dildo you can find.
Does Just Add Flesh sell hollow or liquid filled glass?
Never, never, never! There are many 'glass' products out there that are no more
than an outer glass shell with liquid or gel inside. Some claim this is done for
extra sensation, pleasure, etc. But the fact is that these can be machine made
(rather than handmade like good quality Pyrex Glass Dildos) and as such are much
cheaper to produce. You do NOT want to buy low quality glass products.
Why are Glass Toys becoming so popular?
There are so many reasons for the growing popularity of Pyrex Glass Dildos:
- They can last forever.
- They are easy to clean, chemical resitant, odor resistant.
- The sensations from glass, its weight, its varying shapes is unlike any other 'toy' experience.
- Glass Dildos can be warmed or cooled for a variety of sensations.
- People are discovering that unlike many other toys, Glass Dildos are one of those
'staple toys' that one never grows tired of (much like your favourite little vibrator).
- They are visually stimulating, artful even. You don't need to hide your Glass toys
as you might your other naughty bits. Some people actually display them!
- Because they last long after you throw away other toys, the value of Glass Dildos
is actually quite exceptional.
- And the list goes on and on... bottom line is that the sale of Glass Toys is growing
exponentially driven by people who try one, then find they'd like to collect many!
Each piece is just a little bit different? Why?
Unlike most adult toys, Glass Dildos are HANDMADE. That's right. A real human
carefully crafts every single piece that we sell. And because they are made by hand
it is only expected that no two pieces will be exactly alike. This is part of the beauty
of Glass. While many people might buy the same 'design', just like handmade jewellery
or art, no two pieces will ever be exactly identical.
Can I warm or cool Glass Dildos?
Absolutely. While Pyrex Glass is meant to deal with extreme temperatures, there are
still a few guidelines to follow:
- Warm your Glass Dildo with warm or hot water right out of the tap. 2-5 minutes
does the trick depending upon the size of the piece. Using hot water ensures
that the piece is never uncomfortable and is equally warmed. Do NOT put your
Glass Dildo in the microwave. It is safe for the toy, but not for you. Microwaving tends to
cause hot spots, so while one part you hold might feel just fine, another part that
touches your very sensitive skin might be hot enough to cook food! You do NOT
want to explain that in the emergency department. :-)
- Cool your Glass Dildo with cold water or ice water. (And yes, you can dunk a piece
that is hot straight into ice water without any problems). However, do NOT put it in the freezer.
Yes, it is Pyrex, it is freezer safe, but YOU are not! Cold, dry, frozen glass tends to get stuck
to warm, moist places. Get the picture?
WHY would I warm or cool my Glass Dildo?
Most people don't consider temperature play with toys because few are suited. Glass
dildos are perfect for temperature play. So, to the question... why?
- Why would I warm a glass dildo?
- Warm feels good... it feels inviting. That is just a given.
- ANYWHERE you touch with a warm glass dildo will become sensitive much
more quickly because warmth helps the area to engorge with blood quicker. Used
externally on the clitoris or labia, both will swell faster and self-lubricating will
begin much faster. Used on the G-Spot, the additional warmth will make you
more sensitive there quicker.
- Why would I cool a glass dildo?
- Once you've been playing awhile, and you already have sensations of being
warm, flushed, hot even, the 'shock' of the cold is quite delightful for most. It's
a lot like ice cube play. You'd rarely use cold right out of the gate, but during
play it is very erotic.
- Any place that you touch with a cold dildo will 'settle' so to speak as blood
vessels constrict and nerves are calmed. A cold dildo can be like a 'reset button'
for the clitoris. Many woman who find themselves too sensitive after an orgasm
find that cold puts them back in the mood to play hard again very quickly.
Will my toy break?
Under normal use and with proper care, no, your Glass Dildo is not going to break. Most
pieces can actually withstand a fair bit of bumping, dropping, even tossing around the
bedroom without any problem. Pyrex (Borosilicate Glass) does not shatter like regular
glass and it is many, many times stronger. It is considered a 'Medical Grade Glass'.
However, if you drop it on a hard surface, then it still can break, and will typically snap in two
so the evidence of damage is absolutely clear. If you ever chip or break your
piece, be sure to dispose of it right away (and try not to cry while you wait for your new
one to arrive).
What about sensitivities and allergies?
This is another area where Glass Dildos leave all other toys in the dust. Because they
are not pourous they are easy to clean and are hypoallergenic, totally safe for people
with allergies or sensitivies to just about anything. They are, in fact, recommended by
doctors for just this reason.
But they don't vibrate... Now what do I do?
If you want to add vibration, go right ahead! A small bullet against the clitoris while
using your glass internally is AMAAAAZING. If you like, put a vibrating cock ring on
your glass toy. Because the glass is ridgid, the vibration, while putting the clitoris in
a very happy place, also travels right through the dildo.
NEVER buy glass dildos with vibrators inside. The only way to get a vibrator
inside glass is to either make the glass hollow OR cut a shaft into the base
of the dildo. Either one dramatically weakens the glass and makes it
much weaker. We will never sell such stuff.
Are the colors safe for use?
Yes. Any of our pieces with color have that color embedded right into the glass, not
at the surface. You should definitely avoid any glass toys that have color that is
painted or glazed onto the surface as many of the hypoallergenic properties are
sacrificed. All of our toys are completely safe in this regard.
What lubricants should I use?
Again, with the nonporous quality of Glass Dildos, any sex lubricant will do as
nothing will be absorbed by the piece. In fact you will find that you typically require
less lubricant than you might use with other toys, and often you'll need none at all.
Having said that, make sure that you use a safe and appropriate lubricant. For vaginal use,
a water / glycerin based lube is best. Always try to buy good quality as you don't want
to be introducing chemicals or extra sugar to your vagina. For anal use, again always
buy good quality, and look for a glycerin / silicone blend which is better suited for anal
play. Avoid the 'desensitizing' creams and lubes. Check out our lubes section
for much more information.
Why are Glass Dildos more expensive than other dildos?
That one is easy. Glass Dildos can be more expensive than 'traditional' material
dildos because they are made by hand, not by a machine. They are a form of art,
not a hunk of silicone or rubber. But while you may pay a little more upfront for your
piece, it can last forever. And when you consider an item you will have in your drawer
for decades, the actual cost becomes much less than most any other alternative you
might chose. Glass Dildos are, hands down, the best value in adult toys today.
How should I clean my Glass Dildos?
Caring for your Pyrex Glass Dildo is very easy. But if you take proper care of your
collection, they can last a lifetime. Here are a few suggestions for cleaning and caring
for your Glass toys.
- You can clean using any toy cleaner according to the cleaner's directions. Our favorite
cleaner are the
AfterGlow Toy Wipes.
- You can clean using antibacterial hand soap or dish soap (this is probably the best way).
Just be sure to rinse the toy well with warm water after washing.
- Your Glass is dishwasher safe, so feel free to run it through! Again, a good rinse with
warm water will make sure that no soap or other residue is left behind.
- If you've not used your toy in awhile, be sure to rinse it off with warm water before
use (just to be sure it's still clean).
- If you cool or warm your toy, have fun, but remember to be gentle. A bowl of warm/hot water
or cool/cold water is the best way to go. Avoid extremes like microwaves, boiling, ovens,
blow torches, blast freezers, snow, etc. Pyrex does stand up to the extremes but there
are limits for both your toy and yours and your partners 'sensitive' areas.
- When not in use, ALWAYS store your Glass Dildo in the provided pouch to prevent
your collection from colliding. Bumping glass against glass can cause small marks in the
surface, or in a really bad collision, cause your Glass art to break (and we don't want that).
Alternatively, feel free to leave your pieces out on your bedside table, dresser, or even the mantle
over your fireplace (you think we're kidding?! Some pieces are so amazing that they
are as beautiful as art as they are as a toy!).
